Die Letzte Woche und die Fahrt nach Hause - The Last Week and the Trip Home

Meine letzte Wochen hat schlecht angefangen, weil jemand mein Geld gekalut hat. (Reisenrat: Versteckt dein Geld!).

My last week at the CDC started off on the wrong foot, as I discovered that someone had stolen my money (Trip Tip #? Hid your money well!), So Monday was a crappy day. Tuesday was better, but nothing exciting happened. On monday I got to hang out with on of my friends and we talked about how I was going to get to the air port.  He told me he could drive me there. Then on Thursday I went with the students and a new tutor Johannes on my favorite excursion to the Hohtenweil in Singen. I was very pretty, and I got to climb around more this time. Then on Friday I went on my last excursion to a brewery in Donauechingen. It was really cool, but we weren't allowed to take photos during the tour. After the tour we were allowed to sample three beers. Then when we got into Radoflzell I hung out and said good bye to people, and then went to bed really late. Then at three in the morning my friend drove me to Zurich. Check in and flight to Copenhagen went well. While at Copenhagen I walked around, went though boarder control and the caught my flight to DC. The flight was long, and occasionally bumpy, but it arrived on time! I managed to make it though customs just fine. It was kind of funny though, because they have signs that say "what are you waiting for" and my first thought was "for my country to let me back in". My parents picked me up and I got to spend a few hours at home before I had to drive down to school.

To finish this off, I would like to thank everyone for reading this blog and following along with my adventures in Germany. I still have two more posts that I will finish up and put up here and then this blog will be done until the next time I am in Germany.

Precious German Moments

Little Moments during my Internship of either misinterpretation or general German nerdiness.....

  • My boss was actually trying to tell me, to tell Anthony something.....
(how I interpreted it: Can you say Anthony?)
Me (denken): Ja natürlich kann ich Anthony sagen...... (Me thinking: of course I can say Anthony....)
  • In this case the computer was being slow, and so I told Sven that the computer likes me more (because it had been working fine for me before).
Me: Ich denke, dass der Computer mich mochte (I think the computer likes me more)
Sven: Ja, it must be masculine, and that is why it hates me...of course its male it's der Computer!
  • Skypeing with my mom and dad and they told me that they were going to try to skype me in to my brother's graduation party
Me: okay so I have to be on around 10pm German time on Sunday....(look to go write it in my planner) wait that is when  the Germany vs. Denmark game is...this might be a tricky decision.

Noch eine Woche - Only one more Week!

Okay so this is a little bit late.....but whatever I do not have much to say.
So the previous Saturday I got to go to Europa Park with the kids from the camps and got to ride my first roller coaster! Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to ride the big silver one or the new wood one, but I had fun anyway. The second week with the soccer camp was chaotic with 15 boys and 9 girls to watch over, but it everyone survived. Then the Saturday after we went to the Black Forest to go climbing on a high ropes course. I only did the first level, but it was really cool getting a chance to climb around. It was a little stressful because we had to take the kids on the train and make sure that we didn't lose anyone, but everyone made it back safe and sound. Then this past week was more relaxing, with only 7 boys and 10 girls. On Tuesday one of the girls had a birthday, so the other tutors and myself organized a surprise birthday party for her. She seemed to be really happy about it and I think the other kids had fun as well. On Wednesday I had to help out with the adventure camp, so I got to help build a raft and go swimming. Thursday I was back in the soccer camp and after the soccer training everyone went swimming and the got ice cream. Friday there was a lot of tears from the campers as the dancers finished their last performance and then even more tears as everyone left on Saturday. I am glad that these kids got a chance to become friends with people from around the world (the camps include kids from Germany learning English and then also kids from around the world coming to learn German) and also improve their language skills.
Then yesterday after the kids left I got a chance to walk around Radolfzell again, and then the other Tutors and myself met up to eat pizza and party before everyone had to leave. Then this morning those of us that were left had breakfast with each other and then said our last good byes. Now it is just me, two new tutors and Tobias. I am sad that everyone has left, but I hope that with facebook, skype and email I can still keep in touch with everyone.

I will have to see if I get a chance to write something before I head back to the USA,  until next time!

This last week has been pretty cool. Sunday and Monday evening I went with the students to the Hausherrenfest and there I saw the most people that I have ever seen in Radolfzell. Every evening we ended up danceing on the Stage to music from the 1960- today. Then on Tuesday we had lots of students sign up to to bowling (the most that have signed up for an event since I have been here) so that was exciting and stressfull getting everyone to listen and follow the rules, but I still enjoyed it. Then on Wednesday I went back to the court house to try and get my residence title, unfortunely I still needed a paper so I had to go back on Thursday (also to drop off another persons residence permit) but the line was too long, so I got to go back again on Friday morning where everything finally got sorted out and now I have some funky pages in my passport that say I am allowed to be in Germany! In the meanwhile I got the afternoon off on Wednesday and got a chance to catch up on my sleep. Unfortunately no students came to Stammtisch, so I ended up chilling with Tobias and some of his friends, which was cool because I got a chance to practice my German with real Germans (that are around my age) for a bit. Then on Thrusday none of the students wanted to go to the beach, so I went with some of the tutors and the camp kids. After getting done at the courthouse on Friday I helped a bit with some of the stuff around the school and then I got lunch with the camp kids and then went canoeing with the camp kids and some of the students at the school. Afterwards I hung out with the camp kids, did laundry and went to bed.
Saturday was a little stressful but it was also a cool experience. The students, Tobias and myself woke up early and caught a train to Munich (changing trains in Lindau). The train from Lindau to Munich and back were packed so on the train to Munich we were sitting in the cafe car and on the way back we were sitting in the bike section on the floor. This was because we had just bought a group ticket  which does not included a seat assignment. It was only bad because all of us were so tired that we just wanted to sleep, which was harder to do on the floor or in the cafe car. Other than that we climbed the Olympiad tower and then split off into groups. Some went to the BMW museum, others went shopping and then my group walked around the sites in the city and then stopped for a beer and then McDonald's veggie burgers (which was surprisingly very tasty). I didn't bring enough money to buy anything, but I took lots of photos!
Then soccer and dance camps started on Sunday. All of the kids arrived and the football boys and one of the dance girls just played soccer the whole time. We had one girl that was very home sick, but she seems to be doing better. It took the boys a while to quiet down for bed, but everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and getting into the swing of things. I must admit that even though the boys can be troublesome I am enjoying it a bit more than working in the school, which is probably because it is more similar to working at boy scout camp. Then last night I had off, so I went out with some of the tutors and Tobis friends to the Tankstelle and we all just sat around and talked.  I will finish this post with Pictures! Till my next day off!

Tolle Posttitel - Cool Title

Also bis Bald!
toller Pulli
These last couple of days have been tiring, but lots of fun! On Sunday I ate breakfast and spent most of the morning with some people that I have meet though CDC. Sadly Vicky left, but she gave me Sven's sweater so give back to him, but it is so cool, I couldn't resist walking around wearing it. Three new students also showed up on Sunday. They are all nice, one of them comes from Italy, the other from Japan and the last one from Mexico.
Then on Monday, I was ridiculously tired, because I woke up from a strange dream at 4 in the morning and then couldn't get back to sleep until 5. Unfortunately my coworker was sick, so I ended up helping the secretaries with errands and attempted to plan the freetime program. After work I watched the Ukraine v. Sweden game, which I thought was really good (Ukraine won 2-1) but then I went right to bed because I was so tired. Tuesday was not to bad. I learned how to laminate paper, and laughed at the jokes the students made. Then the WISPs got to listen to a presentation about the German School system, but I think it went over their heads because it was so technical. Then at the guest house I joined in on a kitchen party with Julia, Sven and my new "neighbor" from Switzerland. We all cooked our own food and listened to music. Unfortunately I had to give the awesome sweater back to Sven. But then I watch the Poland v. Russia game.
Today work kept me pretty busy making signs and typing up stuff. Later I will be watching the Germany v.  Holland game at a live viewing so that should be fun! Well until next time!

Kinder und Sport - Kids and Sports

Also in ein paar Stunden kommen neue Schülern! So ich muss gehen. Bis Bald!

WISP getting ready for a night in Constance

Live Viewing of Germany v. Portugal!

Lets see nothing really special has happened. Most of my Americans seem to be enjoying themselves. They especially seem to like Constance (I think it is because Constance has more of a university atmosphere then here in Radolfzell, though I don't mind). One of the things that I forgot to mention was the program they are in. They are all in a work immersion study program or WISP which is a program offered though Cultural Vistas (the same group I went though). They were all good sports and have been trying to attend my events that I held this week. Unfortunately the weather has been rainy and cold and will continue like this for a while. On Thursday the sun came out long enough for some of the students to play basketball with each other. But then the rain came back that night when we (the WISPs and myself) went to go visit the children's English Camp in Engel. The house they get to say in is gorgeous and apparently the food is really good (according to the Tutors that watch over the kids). The kids and the WISPs seemed to have a great time talking and asking questions about Germany and the USA so despite being a little wet, the night was a success! Friday I did not do much, but on Saturday there was a lot of excitement. In the morning the young son of my neighbor locked himself in the room. (the had left the keys in the door and he managed to shut the door and turn the key, but then couldn't figure out how to turn it back or take the key out of the door). The landlords son ended up drilling the lock out. Then one of the WISPs locked himself up in the attic in an attempt to get better internet and all the landlord had to do to try and get him out was just pull on the handle really hard (after about 3 or 4 of us had tried to pick the lock to get him out....). Afterward a couple of us went to a live viewing of the German v. Portugal game. After the game we went back to the house and hung out with a couple of people because the English teacher and Vicky are leaving today and also because Germany won that game! Well I get to go welcome some more new students! Till next time!
