Das Leben der Turorin - The life of a Tutor

Ich sollte mehr in diesem Blog schreiben, aber ich habe bevor gesagt, dass ich mich diese Sachen nicht gut bin.

Letzte Donnerstag habe ich mein Buskarte bekommt, und ich habe mit dem B1 Klasse teilgenommen. Es war auch die Geburtstag meiner Mitwohnirin Vicky, und so bin ich mit Sven, Vicky und ein Freundin von ihr ins Rewe gegangen. Danach habe ich versucht, mit dem Essen zu helfen, und ich glaube dass es geklappt hat. Während des Partys haben wir mit ein andre über alles diskutiert, und ich habe neue Leute kennen gelernt. Es hat Spaß gemacht.

Am Freitag habe ich die Schule mit der Vorbereitung geholfen. Ich habe Fahrplanen und Stadtplanen abgeholt, um dass die neue amerikanische Schülern etwas zu lesen haben.  Der Hausmeister hat mir gesagt, das er gedacht hat, dass ich ein Deutscher war, wegen meines schönes Deutsches. Obwohl er das gesagt hat, glaube ich schon, dass ich Probleme habe. Am Meisten wenn ich von Englisch wieder in Deutsch geht, weil ich glaube, dass mein Deutsch so schlecht hört.

Dann am Samstag, bin ich zu eine Hochzeit gegangen, aber nur zu gratulieren. Bevor am Freitag hat der Sven und ich ein Schild gemalt, um die Hochzeitspaar zu gratulieren. Ich habe nur die Braut (weil ich meine Interview mit sie gemacht habe) und ein paar mit Arbeitern gekannt. Die Braut hat sehr schön ausgesehen.

Am Sonntag sind die Amerikanern gekommen. Ich habe wieder als eine Übersetzerin für die Schülern und der Hausmeister gearbeitet. Nachdem sie alles ausgepackt haben, haben wir eine Stadtbesuch gemacht, und sie habe eine Prüfung gemacht. Ich glaube, dass soweit  sie es gern haben.

Dann heute sind die Schülern und Ich mit dem Bus zu Schule gefahren, damit sie lernen wie das Bussystem funktioniert. Ich habe die Tutors für das englisch Kindercamp  kennen gelernt. Dann habe ich die Schülern die Deutsch lernen, das Freizeitprogramm gegeben. Obwohl niemand ist zu das Freizeitprogramm heute gekommen. Ich habe einen neuen Beamer fachlich gemacht! Aber ich war auch ein bisschen traurig, dass niemand zu mein Freizeitprogramm gekommen ist. (Wir sollten den Film "Das Leben der Anderen" sehen, und das ist warum die Titel ist "Das Leben der Tutorin" ist. Ich habe es lustig gefunden...). In diese traurige Moment habe mich allein gefühlt. Es ist schwer für mich neue Leuten kennen zu lernen, aber ich muss erinnern, dass ich habe schon ein paar Leute schon getroffen habe, und ich habe noch Zeit Leute kennen zu lernen. Ich mich aber hoffentlich kommen sie zu die andren Freizeitprogrammen. Danach bin ich zurück zu dem Gästehaus gegangen, und dann wieder mit Vicky einkaufen gegangen. Dann haben wir zusammen Abendessen gekocht. wir haben Curry, Kimchi und Grillenfleich gegessen, und es war lecker.

I've been pretty bad about updating this, but I will try to remember everything  that has happned in the last couple of days.
Last Thursday I got my bus card and hung out in the B1 class. It was also Vicky's (one of the girls I am living with) Birthday. So after everyone got done with class I went with Sven, Vicky and her friend to the grocery store to help carry food. I then attempted to help prep some of the food....which judging by the few leftovers neither myself or the other cooks didn't do anything terrible. We then sat around and talked with everyone that came by to wish Vicky a happy birthday.
Friday, I helped the school get ready to welcome ten new students from America to CDC, by organizing a classroom and grabbing some pamphlets for them to read. The Landlord also stopped by to help get everything ready, and told me that he was surprised that I was an American, because my German was so good. Even though he said that, I still have issues because when I switch, my German sounds terrible. (at least to me).
Then on Saturday I stopped by a wedding for a bit, to say congratulations, but I didn't know anyone there, other than the Bride (who interviewed me for this job) and a couple of people from work. But the bride looked gorgeous.
Sunday a group of Americans came and I got to play translator between the Landlord and the students. After they had unpacked a bit, I led them on a tour, stopped by a place to eat and then proctored their pre-test. I think everyone is settling in alright. So far they seem to be enjoying themselves.
Then today, myself and the new American students took the bus to the school, so they could learn what class they were in. Afterward I got to meet some of the tutors for the English camp and inform the students learning German what the leisure program is for this week. Although no body showed up for today's, (we were going to watch "The Lives of Others" which is why the title is "the Life of a Tutor" I thought it was good....). I managed to get a projector working! Afterwards I walked back and then went with Vicky to pick up food and we cooked dinner together. We made curry, kimchi, and some left over grilling meat, so over all pretty tasty.

Train and Radolfzell - Der Zug und Radolfzell

Hello! Yesterday I took the train to Radolfzell. I had to change trains in Offenburg, but both trains were clean and on time. (Traveling in Germany Tip #1 book train ticket in advance) The first time the conductor came by to check my ticket, I was so nervous because I wasn't sure if I had done everything right. But thankfully everything when along just fine. From the train I saw Wind Farms, lots of nature, and the Frankfurt Skyline. When I arrived in Radolfzell I took a taxi to the guesthouse, but I had to wait a while because the warden is on vacation. But finally one of the other Tutors (Sven) came and gave me my key. Then Sven showed me how to get into the city and on the way we found Julie, a Brazilian and one of the students at CDC. I went with her to go eat diner.

Then this morning I slept in. Then I walked around (and got a little lost) in the city. I walked around the coast of Lake Constance and also sat on some rocks near the edge. While I was sitting there a wave came up and splashed me. I finished my adventure with a Döner Kebab (similar to a Gyro) and strawberry gelato. Afterwards I managed to find my way back to the guesthouse. (So far I have managed to take a different rout every time....). I still don't have a working phone, but I start work tomorrow!

Hallo! Gestern bin ich nach Radolfzell mit dem Zug gefahren. Die Zuge (ich muss 2 Zuge nehmen, weil ich in Offenburg umsteigt habe) waren sauber und regelmäßig. Das erste mal die meine Fahrkarte kontrolliert, war ich total nervös, weil ich nicht sicher das ich die richtige Karte habe war. Aber ich habe die richtige Karte gehabt. Ich habe Windfarms, viele Natur, und auch die Frankfurt Skyline gesehen. Als ich in Radolfzell angekommen habe, bin ich mit einem Taxi gefahren. Ich muss ein bisschen warten bis jemand kommt, der mich meine Schussel geben könnte, aber dann bin ich und eine Frau aus Brazil (die Julie heißt) in die Stadt gegangen, damit wir essen kann.

Heute habe ich spät geschlafen, und dann in die Stadt und um Bodensee spazieren gegangen. Ich habe neben die See gesetzt, aber nach einer Zeit hat eine Welle mich nass gemacht, und so habe ich weiter spazieren. Ich habe ein Döner Kebab und ein Erdbeere Eis gegessen, und dann zurück nach die Gasthaus gekommen. (aber ich gehe immer eine andre Weg. So weit habe ich die gleiche Weg nicht genommen.) Bis jetzt habe ich kein Handei der funktioniert, aber Morgen fange ich mit Arbeit an! 

Flight and Berlin - die Flucht und Berlin

Nach eine lange Zeit bin ich jetzt in Berlin. Am Donnerstagabend bin ich zu dem Flughafen gekommen. Ich sollte um 17:55 Uhr mit dem Flugzeug fliegen, aber der Pilot war im New York, und so habe ich bis 20:15 Uhr gewartet, bis der Pilot in Washington kommt. Während dieser Zeit habe ich eine holländische Familie getroffen und mit beklagt. Auf dem Flugzeug habe ich The Separation und In Time an geschaut. Ich habe auch geschlafen, aber es war eine unruhige Schlaf. Dann habe ich in Amsterdam umsteigt. Ich muss mit eine andre Flugzug fligen, weil mein schon geflogen hat. Das war einfach weil KLM  Kiosks hat wo man das machen kann. Ich habe bemerkt dass diese Flughafen ein offene Platzt wo Leute draußen gehen und die Flugzeuge schauen können. ich finde das schön!

Dann komme ich in Berlin an und hat mit einen Taxi zu dem Hotel gefahren. Ich habe mein Zimmer bekommen. Das Zimmer ist klein, aber sauber und sieht modern aus. Das Hotel ist auch in der Nähe von dem Bahnhof.  Als ich in dem Zimmer gekommen bin, hatten ich und meine Mitwohnirin  keine Ahnung gehabt, wie man die Lichte an macht. Sie hat ein andre gefragt, und er hat gesagt, dass wir unsere Karte, die selbe die man benutzt um hinein zu gehen, in eine Slot stecken. Dann funktioniert die Elektrizität. Um 15:30 haben sind alle die Cultural Vistas Mitgliedern gekommen, und eine Tour von Berlin gehabt. Danach bin ich und ein paar andren zu ein Resturaunt gegangen und ich habe Wurst, Sauerkraut und Kartoffeln gegessen.
Heute (26. Mai) haben ich und die andre Cultural Vistas Mitgliedern über deutsche Kultur, "Culture Shock" und was man in eine Firma machen muss. Dann später haben ich und ein paar andre Leute zu ein Restaurant zu essen gegangen. Ich habe Spargelcremesuppe gegessen, und ich habe das lecker gefunden. Ich habe auch ein kleines Bier probiert und dann in Berlin spazieren. Das nächste Blog-Entry wird im Radolfzell geschrieben!

After a while I finally made it to Berlin. On Thursday when I went to the airport, the flight was delayed because the pilot was in New York still. While I was waiting I met a Dutch family and we all complained about how long it was taking. On the Plane I watch The Separation and In Time. I managed to get a bit of sleep, but it was not very good. I changed planes in Amsterdam. Because I missed the first flight I booked, I had to get another flight, but KLM hat kiosks where we could go and change our tickets and it was really easy. On my way to my plane I saw an area where people could go outside and watch the planes fly, and I though that was really cool.

Then I finally arrived in Berlin and I rode a taxi to the Hotel. The room in the hotel is nice, small and has a modern style. When I got into the room, my roommate (also with Cultural Vistas) and I had no idea how to turn the lights on. She later asked, and one of the other people in the group told us that we have to stick our hotel card in a slot so that the electricity works. Then myself and the rest of the group with Cultural Vistas went on a tour of Berlin. After the tour I went with some of the group to go eat. I ate sausage, sauerkraut and potatoes.
Then today Cultural Vistas learned about German culture, Culture Shock, and the working environment in Germany. After that I went with some of the group to go eat at a restaurant. There I had Asparagus cream soup and tried a little bit of the house beer. Then we went and walked around Berlin. The next entry that I will write will be in Radolfzell!

It is actually happening, this time tomorrow I will be on a plane heading for Europe. I am so excited! Packing is done, questions have been answered and everthing seems to be in order. The next time this will be updated, it will be from Germany!

Ich kann nicht glauben, dass Morgen ich nach Europa fliege! Ich freue mich! Packen ist fertig, Fragen sind geantwortet, alles ist in Ordnung. Nächstes mal die ich in diese Blog schreibe, wird es in Deutschland!

Introduction-Der Anfang

So this time next week I will be running around with last minute packing and heading off to the airport. I can't believe that this is actually happening! For those that don't know I accepted a job in Radolfzell, Germany working for Carl Duisberg Centren or CDC at their children's language camp. I will be working from the 29th of May to the 17th of August (but I am leaving the 24th and coming back on the 18th). I honestly don't know how often I will be able to update this, and I'm nominally not very good at things like this. Some have requested that I try to keep a blog going though, and I figure it should help with the paper I have to write at the end of this. I am going to try and write this blog in both English and in German. Hopefully I will be able to see an improvement in my German.


Before I head off though I want to put together a list of things that I want to try and do while I am in Germany. So far I've got:

1. Be an awesome staff member at CDC.
2. Visit a Schützenverein. 
3. Meet up with my Grandmother's cousin.
4. Meet new people and make new friends.

Ich kann nicht glauben, dass in eine Woche ich nach Deutschland  fliegen werde! Für alle, die nicht bevor bewusst haben, Ich habe ein Praktikum in Radolfzell, Deutschland, und ich werde für die Carl Duisber Centern oder CDC in ein Sprachcamp für Kinder arbeiten. Ich werde von 29. Mai bis der 17. August arbeiten (aber ich bin in Deutschland von 24. Mai bis der 18 August). Ich weiß nicht wie oft ich diese Blog schrieben kann, und normalerweise bin ich nicht sehr gut mit Sachen wie diese. Ein paar haben mir gefragt, dass ich ein Blog schreibe, und hoffentlich es mir am Ende hilft, wenn ich am Ende ein Aufsatz schieben muss. Ich versuch diese Blog auf Deutsch und auf Englisch zu schieben. Hoffentlich würde ich ein Besserung meines Deutsches sehen.

Bevor ich gehe, habe ich eine List von Sachen die ich gern in Deutschland machen möchte. So weit habe ich:

1. Eine super Mitarbeiterin sein
2. Ein Schützenverein besuchen 
3. Mit meiner Omas Kusine treffen
4. andre Leute treffen
